Tour Through BlogLand

Tour Through BlogLand: Dare To Imagyn Photography

To begin with, I would like to thank Tamika Johnson, owner of Tamika Johnson Events, for nominating me  to participate in the “The Tour Through BlogLand Series. The Tour Through BlogLand Series is a virtual tag, in which designers/bloggers are asked to answer a few questions, then the reader is guided on a virtual tour of the designer’s/blogger’s home or blog. It’s absolutely a wonderful way to get to know new designers/bloggers, to tour their home or blog, and to see what new projects they’re working on.

Again, I'm beyond thrilled to have been nominated by Tamika Johnson. Tamika's an amazing event planner who has a passion for turning a special event into a memorable occasion. With that innate desire, along with her God given gift of service, in the spring of 2004, she founded The Experts Event Planners and Wedding Coordinators also known as Tamika Johnson Events. If you haven't already done so, visit her blog @ http://Theexpertsinc.blogspot.com.

Photography allows me to live out my identity as an artist. For me, art should reflect a lifestyle. It should demand creativity, and most of all, it should be a canvas for limitless story telling. And so, anything that I do as a photographer, whether I'm shooting newborns, families, maternity sessions, bridal sessions, or even weddings, it must begin with a style concept to ensure that we best tell each client's unique story.

In 2008, I created a photography business that doesn't just strive to capture a moment. Again, we specialize in telling our client's unique & honest stories. In fact, we like to call what we do an  "experience" because along with thoughtful and creative styling, we offer a specific attention to detail, and client care. For an expansive view of my work, please visit www.daretoimagyn.com.

I'm a wedding and lifestyle photographer, and I feel like I've been so blessed this year. I've been able to meet amazing clients. I've shot at beautiful locations, and made some new and lasting connections. It's truly been a great ride this summer.

1. WHAT AM I WORKING ON?

The holiday season is fast approaching, and so I'm preparing for family, and individual holiday portraits. Each year, we try to create photo collections that offer new and exciting styling for our clients. I look for styling inspiration pretty much everywhere. I shop at Kirklands, Target, Michaels, Etsy, garage sales...In fact, anywhere that I can find exciting new pieces.

2. HOW DOES MY WORK DIFFER FROM OTHERS IN IT’S GENRE?

Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting a young photographer. He asked me to share with him a specific skill or piece of advice that I could share with him as he begins his career in photography . Without hesitation, I offered this...."If I'm to be honest, photography requires a particular skillset outside of your normal styling, creative, technical, editorial, and documentary skills. It demands a natural gift for connecting with other people."

Being able to connect with my clients, directly influences the style concepts & location options for each client. Although I certainly may pull ideas from popular mediums, each client's portrait session and even wedding portraiture is customized to best tell their own unique story. Understanding that, has allowed me to live out this exciting and demanding profession for over 6 years."

3. WHY DO I WRITE/CREATE WHAT I DO?

I absolutely love sharing style inspiration, locations ideas, etc. I'm a cheerleader, and I truly love encouraging anyone interested in following their dreams of having a photography career.

4. HOW DOES YOUR WRITING/CREATING PROCESS WORK?

It's really simple for me. It all begins and ends with a style concept, a location idea, or a photo collection that I want to share.

I nominate Concita Thomas, of Great Shape Fit Club. Concita is not only an amazing health and fitness coach. She's also a thoughtful and detailed writer. Outside of her blog, she's written articles for a variety of venues. She offers her client's creative and strategic ways to move towards a healthy and fit lifestyle. I recently shot a sweet maternity session. It was really casual, and just easy going. In fact, the bride was 9 months pregnant, and she/hubby really were a pleasure to shoot. We shot it at the Cedar Hill State Park, and I think the collection is lovely. I've included a few photos for you to look over. Enjoy!
