For those of you who don't know....I'm pregnant with a bouncing baby boy! These past few months have been trying, so I have to admit that I've neglected my blog. Please forgive me...it's long been my intention to touch base much sooner. The great news is that I have about 10 more weeks of pregnancy to go...OMG!
But enough about me....
I wanted to share one of my fall weddings with you guys. I just absolutely love this bride because she's just a sweetheart. I was so happy for her on her wedding day. It seemed like every obstacle possible came her way during the planning process but she kept pushing forward. I will forever be grateful that she allowed me to share in her special day.

Mini Session Events

I'm excited to share that based on popular demand, we are now offering styled "mini" session events throughout the year. The sessions are designed to meet the demands of the client who is looking for awesome work with less fuss. We heard those demands, and as such, we will host, several times a year, these awesome "mini" session events. For each event, you will be able to choose different package options. For example, the sessions can be 15 minutes long with 5 photos on Cd for $50, or 30 minutes long with 10 photos on Cd for $75. Each "mini" event may offer different price options.

They will also be held on one specific day, at one location only, and styled with a fabulous theme. You'll simply need to come prepared to have an amazing experience.

The spots will be limited at each event, so you will need to pay the balance in advance to reserve your spot. You'll need to email me @ daretoimagyn@yahoo.com to receive your paypal invoice.

With that in mind, we will be hosting our first "mini" event this Oct 1, 2011. The sessions will be held in Grapevine, Tx, and will begin at 8am. For this event, the package/price options are those listed above in the example. We are now reserving sessions. So, if your interested, don't hesitate. Email me immediately to reserve your spot.

Now, if you happen to miss this event, our next "mini" will be on Oct 15, 2011. The location has not yet been finalized.

Mr. Paci & the Sea of Sorrows

I know that it's time for her to give up her pacifier, and it's that time for so many reasons. But my little one is quite the determined one, with no regard for any rhyme or reason. In away it's somewhat interesting, but mostly heartbreaking to see. For when it's gone, she cries and cries. She creates a sea of sorrows before she falls asleep.
Now, if you have any suggestions as to how I can help her leave Mr. Paci behind, I'm certainly more than glad to listen. For watching my little one in pain is just too great for this Mommy to bare.

Sweet Love * Lifestyle Family Shoot *

Sweet tea, fresh lemon, lemon lime soda, and LOVE. Such was the mix of my recent lifestyle shoot in Grapevine, TX. I've had the pleasure of shooting this beautiful family several times before, and I feel like it gets better every time. They're so loving and kind. Most of all, they have a good time with each other, and I feel like it shows in the collection.
We shot around 6:45pm, and it really was the perfect time to capture the sun. It was a hot day, but somehow we felt cool. We were by the lake, and it was amazing to me that I wasn't fighting off bugs the entire time. Nice...right?

My Amazing New Jersey Wedding Collection

We traveled to New Jersey a few weeks ago to shoot an amazing wedding, and from the start of the day until the very end, we felt more love than we could have ever imagyned. This couple was beyond kind to my husband and me. We spent the day feeling as if we were guests of their wedding rather than the hired photographers, and for that, I will always be grateful. I remember riding in the car after the wedding thinking..."Oh God, I hope I got all of my shots because I had way to much fun."

It's 1:45 am...The hubby and baby are fast asleep, and I've just finished editing a lovely collection that I've been anxious to share with you guys. A little back story is that this particular session has been in the making for some time now. I actually shot their wedding almost 2 years ago, and we've been planning for a post wedding shoot since then. So, you can imagyn just how excited we all were to finally have the session. It was great seeing them again. One of the things that I love about this couple is that they have this amazing chemistry, and I think that you can see it in the collection. The last thing that I'll say is that when we began the shoot, it was raining. All this build up...for rain. But the story ends well. There really is no stopping what the heart and mind wants. Love Stories...Engagement Session

It may sound cheesy, but love really is such a beautiful thing. It's the one emotion in my life that's simple and pure. Now every other emotion...well I haven't quite gotten a handle on those as of yet. But that's a story we'll leave for another entry....
When I think about it, it makes perfect since that my profession is about telling love stories. One point of view says that photography is about blending creativity with an amazing camera. I guess I could see that. But I would also say that it's about real connections with people. When I look at my work, my style is certainly there. But everything else is different because every client is different. There's so much personality and love in every person that I shoot, and that's what I respond to. That's the magic of it all.
I'm preparing for my upcoming summer weddings, and a few months before each wedding I typically look back at my client's engagement sessions. It's my way of discovering their love story all over again. Well this time, I thought maybe I could revisit one of my fab couples with you guys. Take a look...can you feel the love?

He's never in the front, he's mostly unseen but somehow always there, and that's what so amazing about him. He holds everything together even when he's not around. There is a neverending desire in me to be pleasing. Where that desire comes from...I don't know. I can only say that it's there, and it's been with me for most of my life. It's my concern for hurting someone's feelings without a care for my own feelings. It's my desire to be liked. It's my need to feel like everyone knows that I'm a good person and that they're safe with me.
I've often wondered what it must feel like to be okay with saying "no." How it must feel to actually say out loud, right as it happens "you've hurt my feelings." I'd say it in a kind way, of course. I wonder what would happen...
My profession of photography allows me to examine the best and worst parts of myself, and I like that. I think it's a good thing, and not just for me. Bill Cosby once said, "the key to failure is trying to please everyone." The thing is...I agree with him. So what does that mean for me. I certainly don't want to be a failure.
To be honest, I don't have the answer right now. Hey, I'm a work in progress, and I like that too.

Tardy for the party

I had an amazing session at the Dallas Arboretum a week ago. But to be honest, it could have gone another way. Long story short...I was late. I could tell you that there were several good reasons why, but none of them really matter. Being tardy for the party is really only a good thing in a song, and even that is subject to individual taste.
Some of you might be asking, "why is she sharing this absolutely horrendous blunder with the web." I guess it's because we all have blunders from time to time. The better question is, "how do we handle those blunders?" Should I have gone to the session totally distraught or should I have rocked it out and given my clients the best possible experience?

Keeping my eyes on the prize

One year ago, I became a mom. I prayed for this little person my whole life, and now here she is. She's this amazing ball of infectious energy wrapped in a beautiful shell, and I get to love her. I get to take care of her. I get to be her mommy.
So now can I tell you that I'm scared sometimes. I'm scared because I want so much for her. I want her to have a great life, and it starts with my husband and me. These two perfectly imperfect people.
I know that she's going to have great days and some not so great days. How do I handle the not so great days?
I ask myself that question a lot, and then this morning it came to me. I realized that my job is to keep my eyes on the prize. The prize is knowing that God has a plan for her life. He gave my husband and me this amazing gift, and he trusted us to take care of her. He knew that we would nurture, support, and love her. So who am I to question that. I can do this...I mean I'm a great wife and I run a great business. I can produce a loving, awesome, dynamic, driven, creative, and generous person...right.

I'm finally getting into this comfortable rythym. I'm a wife, a new mommy, I run a business, and for awhile there....I lost myself. I just couldn't find any time in my day that was just for me. Even at 3:00 in the morning, I'd find myself working on Dare To Imagyn needs or cleaning the living room. And I'm not saying this to suggest that I've been walking around unhappy for the last year. I've had a great year in fact. I just feel like it's important to say this stuff out loud.
Sometimes it's hard trying to have it all...but I'm finding my way.

The Sound Of Music

Today's post is actually going to be very brief, at least for me, but nonetheless important. I thought that it was rather neglectful, on my part, that I hadn't shared more of my background as an artista with you. I feel like I just sprung up out of no where offering my do's and don'ts about...well a lot. My story begins with a true and never ending magic in me. It is my starting point, from which all my imagynation flows. It is also my refuge, or as I like to call it, my secret place. If you want to know how it all began for me...you'll find it in the sound of music.

Since I can remember, I've always had the gift of writing, and singing. I can hear any song, in any genre, and quickly catch on to the melody and the background harmonies. I used to take poems hanging on the wall at my grandmother's house, and turn them into lovely songs that I would sing over and over again. Now, of course, we all know that my business is photography. So it's ok that some of you are probably thinking, "how does music relate to photography?" or even, "why aren't you a musician?" I can only explain it this way...Music, for me, is about sharing or better yet, communicating. Photography is simply another means of doing just that. When you look at a slide show of photos, if you think about it, isn't it really the telling or sharing of a story. And really, that's what binds all of the professions in the arts. So, as an artista, and forgive me, I just like the sound of artista. I am a musician, I am a photographer, and I am a writer. And you'll find that I incorporate all of those parts of me into my profession of photography. So when you look at my work...see if you can hear my song.

Dare To Build

Before I begin, let me please ask that you excuse my absence for the past few days. I enjoyed a wonderful holiday weekend with my hubby/my hero/the man of my dreams. smile So, I think it goes without saying that I would love to have just one more day of fun....but my husband's alarm clock going off this morning reminded me that it's over. And just as I thought of feeling sorry for myself, I remembered that I have my wonderful yet one sided conversations with you guys to look forward to. So with that said, let's begin today's discussion...

The last few posts have been carefully plotted out or rather designed to encourage anyone with the desire to start their own company to do so. So far, we've learned that in order to become a successful entrepreneur you'll need to keep two things, in particular, at the forefront of your mind. The first is that you must do something or work for your company every day, and most importantly, you need to believe that your company will succeed no matter the obstacle.

OK, so let's now move on to your next and I'd even say most crucial step. Without question the only way that your business will succeed is if you get the word out. Essentially getting the word out for your new business is equivalent to needing running water in your home. There is no other option....no other way to succeed. There is no business without the people. So, today's food for thought is about building your company. In my company, I call this very concept, Dare To Build, and I call it that because to dare to build or even to dream or to imagyn is simply about stepping outside of your comfort zone. And so with that in mind, when it comes to getting the word out about your company, you have to be bold. In fact, you must represent your company at all times. You need to go to events you probably wouldn't have attended before. You need to make a point to meet a potential client every day. Remember, your personality is the true magic of your company. Yes, of course, it's about the work or the service that you can provide but when people like you...they'll support your business. So get to it....dare to build today.

Working For The Dream

So now that you've made the decision to go after your dream, we need to examine a bit further what it means to work for your dream. We know from yesterday's post that there is one simple truth when starting your own business, and that is that your business will only succeed if you work at it with everything you have. But I know for some of you, that probably sounds like a generic ad. The real question you'd like answered is, "where do I begin or rather what will I need to do to first, specifically?" So, this is what I'd like to offer you as a starting point. Your first real goal and furthermore biggest challenge is to believe. You need to believe that no matter what the challenge or no matter how long it takes , you will run a successful company. And why is this so important? Well, let me just offer you this story...

A married couple, Mr & Mrs Dream, of 20 years were attending their 25 year high school reunion. They were excited to be there because they each had successful careers, not to mention they had remained loving partners for 20 years. Just recently, the husband, and we'll call him Steve for the purposes of this story, sold his start up company to a big corporation for a substantial profit. The wife, and let's call her Lauren, because I've always liked that name, owned her own successful consulting firm while working as the superintendent of her town school district. Clearly, this married couple is living the American Dream.

OK, so now that we know a little bit about them, here's where the story gets good. While they were at the reunion, Steve began to joke with his wife about running into her ex-boyfriend. Let's call him, Tommie, just because it sounds like a high school boyfriend's name. Tommie, contrary to them, wasn't doing so well. He had fallen on hard times, and the only reason he even attended the reunion was because he figured he could pretend that things weren't as bad as they truly were. However, hard he tried, most of the people there were quite aware that he had fallen on hard times, and like Steve, they found it a bit ironic that the senior class high school president of '83 was now...unemployed, unmarried, and living in his little brother's basement. Steve says to his wife, "aren't you glad you married me...your life would be so different had you married Tommie." And Lauren says to her self assured husband, "No, poor Tommie should be sad that he didn't marry me...he would be where you are if he had." The end.

So, what did you get from today's story? My hope is that you find that it all starts with you believing that you will succeed no matter which road you choose, no matter what the obstacle, and hardest of all, no matter how long it takes. The Business Of Photography

Like most entrepreneurs, I find that I am in an exciting race. A race that is a challenge, of course, but also truly rewarding. And for me, it's rewarding because I get to work in a wonderful industry that nurtures my creativity, and speaks to my desire to be of service. Now with that said, however beautifully stated it was, if I do say so myself, I would be remiss if I didn't talk about the bottom line of it all. The business....and for me, that's the business of photography. But before I begin, let me just say this. I'll actually spend a few posts on this subject as to keep each one as brief as possible. I don't want to bore you with hours of "work" talk. But I just think that it's so important to share whatever you've learned with others. My intention here is to encourage anyone thinking about starting your own business in whatever field. So here we go....

We all know that it all starts with the dream or rather the vision for an exciting new company. It's about your passion, what motivates you, and a number of the other great things that people say. So, I'd then say to you, that if you're that person considering going after your dream, this is the most important thing you'll need to know. You need to speak of it, live it, think about it, write it about it, and most of all, make certain that you do something every day to make it come to fruition. We all know that every successful business is a result of hard work. That's the key word, work. And I hope that what you take most from anything I've said here is that making the dream happen simply means working for your dream. Now, my business is photography. Your Photos Tell Your Story

When looking for a photographer for any occasion, but in particular weddings, it is important to look for an artist/photographer that wants to tell your unique story. The photographer needs to be attentive and I would say, diligent about capturing the details...the things that matter to you most. So whether that is your family & guests, the beauty of the location or simply a beautiful smile between you and another, whatever matters to you should be the photographer's commitment.

When you have your consultation with the photographer, you want to make certain to come prepared with a list of your, I like to call, must haves. Must haves are just that...and it's so important to communicate those things with your photographer. I think that we, as consumers, can sometimes be so inundated by the all of the things we need to take care of in our busy lives. And so, we see a great product...however pretty it's painted....and assume that all will be taken care of. So again, have your list and be specific. With that said, I've included a favorite photo from a recent wedding. In terms of the detail, I love that the ring bearer is having fun with the flower girl, and mom notices, of course. We can all relate to that STORY...Enjoy!
